Voting Rights Trail to Add Facilities

By Alabama Public Radio

White Hall, AL – The National Voting Rights Trail will feature more than historic markers soon. The first of three interpretive centers will open next year near White Hall to commemorate the 1965 Voting Rights March from Selma to Montgomery. State transportation director Joe McInnes says R-E Grills Construction Company of Birmingham has been awarded a seven-point-four million dollar contract to built the center and a rest area on a 20-acre site. The project includes a theater and multipurpose room, an information center and displays about the march. There will also be a domed pavilion, picnic tables and walking trails. Two more interpretive centers will be built later in Selma and Montgomery.
