Montgomery, AL – Alabamians aged 65 and older make up the state's fastest growing population group. But state Attorney General Troy King says that trend has a downside. There has been an increase in reports of older citizens being abused, neglected or swindled out of their life savings. King says he will host a statewide conference on September seventh in Montgomery to address the issue. He says it will bring together social service organizations, law enforcement agencies and health care providers. Doris Ball, director of adult protective services for the Department of Human Resources, says D-H-R receives more than five-thousand reports a year of senior citizen abuse or exploitation.
