Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Valley Authority is among five large power producers defending themselves against a global warming lawsuit. The producers say they are making efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. The companies also say the lawsuit, which was filed by eight states and three nonprofit land trusts, wants the judicial system to usurp the policy-setting roles of Congress and the president. But those who sued the power plants say they want a federal judge to force the operations to reduce emissions by three percent a year for ten years.
