Fort Payne, AL – Fort Payne residents last week narrowly approved a referendum to legalize alcohol sales in the city. But the group formed to keep the city dry has petitioned a circuit court to nullify the results. The November second referendum passed by a margin of 184 votes. The group Dry Forces of Fort Payne has filed notice it is contesting the election. The organization also has filed a petition in DeKalb County court. The complaint says city clerk Jim McGee improperly moved a polling station because the city council did not approve the change 90 days before the election. The group says that disenfranchised some voters.
