Long-Time ASF Director Leaving Post

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – An Alabama man is the new artistic director for the Denver Center Theatre Company. Kent Thompson will succeed Donovan Marley in July. Thompson has served as the producing artistic director of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival for almost 16 years. He created the Southern Writers' Project in 1991 to commission and develop new plays. Thompson has also produced almost half of Shakespeare's works. The National Endowment for the Arts chose his recent staging of "Macbeth" to tour 13 U.S. military bases this fall. Thompson says he looks forward to creating a theatre of even greater national and international significance.
