Mobile, AL – A new $45 million condominium development project in Mobile is up in the air because the developer has a prison record. Mobile native Andrew Oliver served 12 years in prison after being convicted for charges connected to a bank robbery and murder. He then spent another 14 months in prison on a drug charge. Oliver says he did not think to discuss his past with city leaders until after his project was presented to the public. Oliver is trying to get the city's full support to buy and build on property on the Mobile River that is currently owned by CSX Railway. Mobile officials had pledged to help with the purchase of the land. Mayor Mike Dow's spokesperson says the mayor hopes the project can move forward, with or without Oliver. Oliver, meanwhile, says he is a changed person, and the time he spent in prison helped him rebuild his life.
