Republican Qualifies to Compete for House Seat

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Former state Representative Allen Sanderson has qualified to run for the Republican nomination for a vacant Alabama House seat. Sanderson is a commercial real estate executive. He's running for a seat in House District 46. The seat was vacated when Republican Representative Mark Gaines of Homewood was appointed probate judge in Jefferson County. The district includes parts of Homewood, Hoover and Mountain Brook. Sanderson served in the House from 1990 to 2002. Governor Riley has scheduled the Republican and Democratic party primaries for the seat for March 15. Runoffs, if necessary, will take place April 26 and the general election June 7. If party runoffs are not necessary, the general election will be April 26.
