Brewton, AL – A Brewton man has won the Alabama Waterfowl Stamp Art Contest for 2005 with his painting of a canvasback duck. Clarence Stewart's winning artwork will be on the 2006-2007 state waterfowl stamp. Waterfowl hunters are required to carry that stamp, and they are popular collector items. Stewart says he had entered the contest without success in previous years. Artwork was judged by a panel of art, ornithology and conservation experts. First runner-up was a pair of flying Ross's Geese by Steven Burney of Twon Creek. Second runner-up was a pair of buffle heads by David Nix of Cottondale. Designs were limited to living species of North American migratory ducks and geese.
