Alfa is Removing Wind Damage Policy

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Alfa Insurance Company is making changes in some insurance policies. The company is ending wind damage coverage for about 23-hundred homeowners in parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties. In a written statement, Alfa Vice President Lee Ellis said those policyholders will be notified by mail about two months before their current policies expire. Ellis said homeowners losing Alfa's wind coverage can purchase it from the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association. Ellis also said the affected homeowners will receive a 65 percent reduction in their base homeowners premium because of the change. Hurricane Ivan struck in mid-September and caused an estimated ten billion dollars worth of damage in Alabama.
