Twisters Turn Across the State

By Alabama Public Radio

Dothan, AL – Several strong storms moved into the state from Florida and Mississippi Tuesday. The storms started an apparent twister that caused injuries and prompted numerous tornado watches and warnings. The National Weather Service says almost all affected communities were also hit by penny-to-quarter-sized hail as the storms moved quickly across the state into Georgia. In Southeast Alabama, four people were injured when a tornado touched down about 15 miles east of Dothan in the Pansy community. Officials say the injuries were not life-threatening. Charles Finney with the Houston County Emergency Management Agency says the funnel cloud touched down just after 1 p.m. Several homes and barns were damaged, and strong winds overturned tractors. The twister also knocked down power lines and uprooted some trees.
