Rep. Says He Won't Leave Unless Forced

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Representative Ronald Grantland says he will only leave his job with the Alabama Department of Health if he loses his appeal of a federal judge's ruling. Federal Judge Bruce Rosenstein ruled that the Hartselle Democrat cannot work for a state agency and serve in the Legislature at the same time because that's a violation of the federal Hatch Act. Grantland has been a regional administrator for the health department for 33 years. He's serving his second term in the House. He says Rosenstein's ruling won't become final until a federal board of review rules on his appeal. But Grantland also says, if forced to make a choice, he'll leave the Health Department instead of giving up his House seat.
