Montgomery, AL – A Senate committee has approved a bill that would move Alabama's presidential primary. The Constitution and Elections Committee approved a proposal that would move the June 2008 vote to the first Saturday after the New Hampshire Primary. That would be in early February. Its sponsor, Representative Ken Guin, says the change would make Alabama the third state in the country to cast ballots for presidential candidates. Alabama's vote also would come after the Iowa Caucuses. Guin says he also thinks holding the primary on a Saturday would boost turnout.
