Alabama Gains Jobs in BRAC Process

By Alabama Public Radio

Washington, DC – Alabama's four major military installations will remain open. The Defense Department announced Friday the recommendations for Base Realignment and Closure, known as BRAC. Redstone Arsenal, Fort Rucker and the Anniston Army Depot will gain more than one thousand jobs each. Maxwell Air Force Base will remain open but will lose more than 12-hundred jobs. Eleven small Guard and reserve centers around the state also will be closed under the proposal. Most of those involve a small number of jobs. The proposal will now be considered by a federal base closing commission. It is the first round of closures and realignments in a decade.
