Undated – The official hurricane season begins Wednesday. Forecasters say the ocean continues to warm up, and that could cause intense hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this season. An updated forecast from William Gray and his team at Colorado State University predicts 15 named storms. Eight of them are expected to become hurricanes. Four hurricanes are expected to be intense, with sustained winds of 111 miles-per-hour or greater. An earlier forecast predicted 13 named storms and seven hurricanes, three of which were expected to be very strong. The Atlantic hurricane season runs between June first and November 30th.
