Athens Police Sergeant Wounded

By Alabama Public Radio

Athens, AL – An Athens police sergeant was wounded on duty Sunday. The incident happened about 1 a.m. outside the American Legion Post where a party was taking place. Detective Sergeant Brett Constable was shot in the chest and hand. He's in stable condition at Huntsville Hospital. Police are looking for a male suspect. Police Captain Tracy Harrison says shots were fired by a man with a pistol, hitting Constable while he was in his patrol car. Constable is a 14-year police veteran. He'd responded to assist patrol units answering a call about shots fired outside the club. Limestone County sheriff's investigators are handling the probe.
