Mobile, AL – Lawyers for suspected serial killer Jeremy Jones want him tried in a different location because they say media coverage has hurt his chances of a fair trial in Mobile County. Jones is charged with the murder of a Turnerville woman and has been named as a suspect in killings in Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Kansas. Circuit Judge Charles Graddick says he won't rule on the change of venue motion until the defense team completes a survey questioning 400 potential Mobile County jurors. Graddick Monday ordered a mental evaluation of the defendant. Jones could be transported to a state mental facility as early as Tuesday for that purpose. The judge also ruled that wherever the trial is held, he will sequester the jury. He says he wants to see the trial begin in August. Defense lawyers Greg Hughes and Habib Yazdi subpoenaed members of the print and electronic media to the change of venue hearing Monday. The prosecution did not call any witnesses.
