Montgomery, AL – State Attorney General Troy King is calling for a full panel review of a decision from the 11th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals. A three judge panel of the court decided to allow Atlanta to use more water from Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River to meet its water needs. Alabama and Florida oppose that move, which reverses earlier decisions by a federal district court in Alabama. Those decisions blocked metro Atlanta from getting the extra water. King says giving Atlanta more water could make Alabama less desirable for future industries. He also says the nuclear plant in Dothan relies on the water for its cooling system and the local communities rely on the water to generate electricity. Alabama, Florida and Georgia have been fighting about the water since 1990.
