Supreme Court Refuses Execution Delay

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Supreme Court did not delay the execution of John Peoples. He's scheduled to die Thursday by lethal injection. Peoples told the court he wanted to die by electrocution, not lethal injection. He argued his original death order in 1984 stated he would die in the electric chair. But the state changed its method of execution from electrocution to lethal injection, and the change took effect in July 2002. Prosecutors say Peoples' recent arguments merely sought to delay his sentence. Peoples is scheduled to die at six P-M Thursday at Holman prison in Atmore.
