Montgomery, AL – The state Public Service Commission has been asked to approve a rate hike for Alabama Power Company. The utility has proposed a ten-point-six percent increase for its monthly rates. That would be an extra eight-dollars and sixty-two cents per month for the typical residential customer. For the year, that's about an extra 103 dollars. An executive with Alabama Power says the utility needs the extra money to pay for rising fuel costs. The company uses the fuel to power its generators. The P-S-C is scheduled to review the request at its November eighth meeting.
