DHR Asked to Speed Up Web Process

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Foster parents believe if the state Department of Human Resources would speed up the process of placing profiles on the web, more children could get adopted. They expressed concerns to D-H-R more than a year ago and a spokeswoman for the parents repeated those concerns at a recent D-H-R board meeting. There are 260 children in D-H-R custody who have no relatives who can take them into their homes. Ninety-five of these children are profiled on the state's Web site. Fifty have photographs and profiles completed, but they are being withheld from public viewing because a potential placement is in the works. Paul Butler, director of family and children services says D-H-R hopes to get every child listed by early next year.
