Second HealthSouth Trial Begins

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – In pretrial hearings, both prosecutors and defense lawyers sought to limit the amount of courtroom references to Richard Scrushy during the conspiracy and fraud trial of Hannibal ``Sonny'' Crumpler, a former controller at HealthSouth's outpatient division. Jury selection was last week. Attorneys will issue opening arguments before Birmingham Federal Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins. The judge earlier granted a defense motion to prevent prosecutors from telling jurors that Crumpler's lawyers, Art Leach and Les Moore, also represented Scrushy. Crumpler has pleaded not guilty.
