Tuscaloosa, AL – The Jim Walter Resources Number Four Mine in Tuscaloosa County will shut down for 24 hours beginning Thursday night. The company announced last night the mine will close in memory of Gerry Jones. He's the Brookwood miner who died Monday after spending two weeks hospitalized in critical condition. Jones was 57 years old. He was injured two weeks ago when a large rock knocked him onto a conveyor belt. The mine will close at 11 P-M Thursday and will reopen at 11 P-M Friday. An initial report from the U-S Mine Safety and Health Administration did not cite Jim Walter Resources. Funeral services for Jones will be held Thursday at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Bessemer at 10 o-clock Thursday morning. Jones will be buried at Highland Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife and four children.
