Scrushy Announces New Ministry

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy says he has co-founded a ministry called Kingdom Builders International Ministries. He says it's feeding children in Africa and is planning even more missions work. Scrushy says the group also plans to build a Bible-based university and offer services including mortgages, insurance and health care. The announcement comes just a couple of weeks before Scrushy is scheduled to go on trial May First. He faces government corruption charges in Montgomery. A prosecutor in that case says it appears to be "more than a coincidence" that Scrushy's ministry is expanding just before the trial. A religious T-V program featuring Scrushy and his wife also has started airing in the Montgomery market.
