Education Workers Sees Changes in Health Plan

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – The cost of generic drugs is being reduced for current and retired education employees taking part in Alabama's health insurance program. Yesterday, the board of the Public Education Employees Health Insurance Program voted to lower members' co-pay for generic drugs from 10 dollars to five dollars. The group voted to raise the co-pay for preferred drugs from 20 dollars to 30 dollars and for non-preferred drugs from 40 dollars to 50 dollars. It also eliminated a 50-dollar-a-year drug deductible for participants. The PEEHIP board also voted to raise the monthly cost of insurance for retired education employees under the age of 65 by 12 dollars ... from 78 to 90 dollars. The changes take effect on October first.
