Havana, Cuba – Alabama Public Radio news reporter Gina Smith recently traveled to Havana, Cuba, as part of a media mission sponsored by Cuban officials and the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks wanted reporters to get an idea of what he was talking about when he praised the growing trade relationship between Alabama and Cuba. Not only did the reporters on the trip get to speak with trade representatives, but they also learned more about Cuba's growing role in the global biotechnology industry. And they also had a little fun along the way. Gina Smith reports. (Note -- this file is 19:31 in length.)
OUTRO: Gina's travelogue is just the first of several reports she'll be producing for Alabama Public Radio concerning the economic, cultural and political relationships between Cuba and the United States, particularly Alabama. We'll let you know when the next one is ready. I'm Butler Cain, and this is Alabama Public Radio.
