Mobile, AL – The state is reviewing allegations that two employees at Bishop State Community College in Mobile arranged student aid and scholarships for relatives who never attended the school. One of the relatives is a 67-year-old disabled grandmother who was enrolled in sports classes three months before her death. Thomas Corts, interim chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system, sent a team from his office this week to investigate problems reported in the school's financial aid office. State Representative Yvonne Kennedy of Mobile is president of Bishop State. She says she began looking into problems in May, but she went on medical leave in June because of open-heart surgery. The documents outlining the allegations urge officials to investigate, saying the practice is not limited to the two employees in question.
