Washington, DC – Alabama's House Republicans say they want more information before deciding whether national party leaders appropriately handled warnings about former G-O-P Representative Mark Foley's contacts with young pages working on Capitol Hill. Representative Robert Aderholt of Haleyville and two more of Alabama's Republican congressmen -- Terry Everett of Rehobeth and Jo Bonner of Mobile -- said yesterday they were withholding judgment on the matter while the investigation proceeds. Spokespeople for Alabama's two other House Republicans -- Spencer Bachus of Birmingham and Mike Rogers of Saks -- said they could not provide comment from the lawmakers. The state's two House Democrats, Artur Davis of Birmingham and Bud Cramer of Huntsville, said the matter should be thoroughly investigated. But they did not join calls by some for House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign his leadership post. Foley, a Florida Republican, resigned last week amid allegations that he exchanged sexually explicit messages with teenage pages. House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois has acknowledged that his aides were told of suspicious e-mails involving one page last year. But he insists he was not aware of any explicit sexual communication from Foley.
