Econ Development Group Wants Help from Residents

By Associated Press

Grove Hill, AL – Leaders of a Clarke County economic development group wants local citizens to pay a couple of bucks to help them pay for efforts to develop the county. Buddy Bedwell, director of the Twin River Economic Development Partnership, proposed the fee at a meeting with the Clarke County Commission last week. Bedwell wants residents to pony up two dollars per person to pay for economic development initiatives in Clarke and Choctaw counties. He said the fee could generate about 56-thousand dollars. Bedwell hopes to eventually raise about 150-thousand dollars annually that can be used to hire an economic development specialist to promote the region.
