Evergreen, AL – Schneider National announced Wednesday it will close its Evergreen trucking center on December 31st and reassign its drivers to other company locations. Company officials said the 52 office and maintenance workers also will be given a chance to relocate. About 600 drivers use the center for truck maintenance and refueling. In a statement, Senior Vice President of Operations Todd Jadin, who met with employees Wednesday, said the decision to close the Evergreen truck stop on Interstate 65 is part of the company's attempt to streamline operations. He said freight flows, fuel, customer demands and other factors were involved in the decision. Schneider opened an operating center in Edwardsville, Illinois, in June and expanded a facility in Portland, Oregon, last month. The company will hold a job fair in Evergreen for its employees to meet potential employers. The date for the fair was not immediately available. Evergreen Mayor Larry Fluker is traveling yesterday and was unavailable for comment. Schneider, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, has operated in Evergreen since 1998 on a site once used by Poole Transportation. Jadin says the site will be sold.
