Montgomery, AL – State Senator Bradley Byrne says he tentatively plans to resign his state Senate post and become Alabama's new junior college chancellor on May 24th. That's so he can participate in a state Board of Education meeting the same day.
The board voted May tenth to hire Byrne, who's an attorney from Fairhope. Byrne says he's already started transferring his legal work to his law partners in preparation for taking the chancellor's job.
Byrne says his first task as chancellor will be to review the state and federal investigations into the two-year college system. He says he also plans to visit many of the two-year college campuses. Byrne is no stranger to the two-year college system because he served eight years on the state Board of Education before being elected to the Senate in 2002.
