Utility Will Lower Water Levels on Three Lakes

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – Alabama Power will lower Jordan, Lay and Mitchell Lakes by one-to-two feet this week. The utility said the step is necessary to protect water quality and navigation due to worsening drought conditions.

The draw down is the second this month and it will begin on or around Wednesday. The utility, in a recent statement, said it should be completed within two weeks.

The company advises boat owners and others with water facilities and equipment to protect their property.

This year's drought is shaping up to be one of the worst on record and lake levels are already 3-to-5 feet below normal levels.
