Birmingham, AL – Alabama Power is warning boaters and anglers about dams.
Utility spokesman Michael Snajderman said where water in lakes is available, the company is using its hydroelectric plants to help meet the peak afternoon demands.
He said the dams have been used so little this summer due to the drought that some fishing boats have started getting closer to the dams than they should. He cautions anglers to beware of the hydroelectric plants now being used to meet the demand. He said it only takes seconds for large amounts of water to come from the dams. A horn will blast before the water starts flowing.
