Huntsville, Shelby County Ask Water Customers to Conserve

By Associated Press

Undated, AL – Water systems officials in Shelby County and Huntsville are calling on their customers to reduce water usage because of the lingering drought.

Shelby County Water Services water tanks are approaching critically low levels and the utility said outdoor watering must be greatly reduced. Customers must water grass for no longer than 1 hour a day. Addresses with even numbers can water lawns on Monday and Thursday. Its Tuesday and Friday for residents with odd numbered addresses. There is NO watering on Wednesdays. The new schedule is effective immediately.

A spokesman for Huntsville Utilities said the record breaking heat this week reduced its water supply. Bill Yell said the utility wants its customers to voluntarily reduce water usage. A record was set Monday when more than 74 million gallons of water was pumped.
