Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Legislature's Contract Review Committee delayed action Wednesday on choosing a new chairman for the panel that reviews state agency contracts.
Committee members had been expected to name a new chairman to replace former Representative Neal Morrison, who resigned from the House last week to become acting president of Bevill State Community College.
House Speaker Seth Hammett, an Andalusia Democrat, appointed Representative Marc Keahey, a Democrat from Grove Hill, to replace Morrison on the committee. But committee members must select a new chairman.
The committee's senior member, Democratic Representative Alvin Holmes of Montgomery, presided over yesterday's meeting and said he expects there will be a special meeting within the next month to elect a new chairman.
The committee includes four senators and four House members and the chairman position is rotated every four years between the House and the Senate.
