Immigration Commission Met Wednesday

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – A commission created by the Alabama Legislature to study immigration issues held its first meeting Wednesday in Montgomery. The Legislature created by Joint Interim Patriotic Immigration Commission after every immigration bill introduced in the spring session of the Legislature failed.

State Senator Scott Beason of Gardendale says the commission will gather information and make recommendations when the Legislature's next regular session starts in February.

Beason was elected vice chairman of the commission Wednesday. Jay Reed of Birmingham was elected chairman. He's the vice president of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama. Reed says he wants to the commission to conduct a balanced study.
