Cullman County AL – A special election has been scheduled to fill the Alabama House seat in Cullman County that was vacated when former Rep. Neal Morrison was named interim president of Bevill State Community College.
Gov. Bob Riley on Thursday set dates for the special election in House District 12, which includes much of Cullman County.
The deadline for candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties to qualify is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3. The party primaries will be on Tuesday, Nov. 13 and runoff elections, if necessary, will be Tuesday, Dec. 18. The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29.
If runoff elections are not needed, the general election will be Dec. 18.
The election dates mean a new representative for District 12 will be chosen before the 2008 regular session begins on Feb. 5.
Morrison, D-Cullman, resigned Aug. 31 after serving 13 years in the Legislature.
