Steve Miller of the National Weather Service in Mobile told the Press-Register a tornado developed from a storm that moved over Dauphin Island, touched down near Coden and headed north.
Bayou La Batre Police Chief John Joyner said a tornado overturned a trailer home near Irvington.
Officials said no significant damage was reported within the Mobile city limits, aside from flooded streets.
Alabama Power Co. spokesman Bernie Fogarty said 713 customers in Mobile County had no power at 5:30 p.m. in areas near Navco Road, in Coden, Bayou La Batre and areas along Dog River in Mobile. Fogarty said the remainder were scattered in Irvington and downtown Mobile.
