Decatur Copper Plant Will Close

By Associated Press

Decatur, AL – Copper tubing manufacturer Wolverine Tube is closing its Decatur plant and cutting nearly 500 jobs. Company officials made the announcement Tuesday and blamed the shutdown on slowing sales of its copper plumbing tubes for residential construction.

The Decatur facility had been in operation since 1948.

Huntsville-based Wolverine also plans to cut up to 60 jobs and shutter its plant in Boonesville, Mississippi.

A company executive said affected workers will be offered a severance package and help in finding new jobs.
