Montgomery, AL – Those who are driving in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee this Thanksgiving holiday will notice a lot more law enforcement officers on the road.
That's because the three states are teaming up to for a crackdown on bad drivers on November 19th through 25th.
They'll be more than 1,500 extra officers on the roads in hopes of reducing the 44 traffic fatalities the three states saw during last year's holiday.
Alabama had 19 deaths, Mississippi had five and 20 people died in Tennessee crashes during the comparable period in 2006.
It's the first time the states have paired up for a ''Take Back Our Highways'' campaign, but Alabama had a similar crackdown in August that resulted in 26,000 citations and arrests.
Officers will be on the lookout for drivers who doing illegal lane changes, speeding, failing to yield right of way, following too closely, not paying attention and driving under the influence.
