Oakwood College Will Become University

By Associated Press

Huntsville, AL – Oakwood College is getting a new name next year. The 112 year old school will become the state's 18th university on January first. The change was approved on Sunday by delegates attending a constituency meeting at the Huntsville school.

School President Delbert Baker said the change reflects ''new horizons'' at Oakwood.

In June, Oakwood began offering its first-ever post graduate degree - a master of arts in pastoral studies.

The historically black college was founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
