Birmingham, AL – Former two-year college Chancellor Roy Johnson's driver has pleaded guilty to obstructing a federal investigation.
Lanier Robert Higgins of Wedowee admits he lied about corrupt financial deals with Johnson when he testified in front of a federal grand jury in 2006.
The plea agreement filed Wednesday states that Johnson directed Higgins to receive money from vendors who did business with the Alabama Department of Post-Secondary Education and pass the money to Johnson.
Johnson allegedly used the money to pay personal expenses - namely construction costs for a home he was building in Opelika.
The 50-year-old Higgins faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
