Severe Weather Possible for Parts of Alabama Friday

By Associated Press

Undated, AL – Much needed rain is falling across Alabama today, but forecasters urge residents to keep their eyes on the sky.

The National Weather Service said a storm system fed by Gulf moisture will enhance thunderstorms in front of an approaching cold front. The system has the potential to spawn severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail. Isolated tornadoes also are possible.

Clusters of thunderstorms and penny-sized hail fell across northwest Alabama early today. Penny-sized hail was reported in Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals.

Residents are urged to monitor their weather radios or other media outlets today for the latest weather watches or warnings.
