Ex-Jefferson County Commissioner Found Guilty in Bribery Trial

Montgomery – A federal court jury has found former Jefferson County Commissioner Gary White guilty of nine counts of bribery and conspiracy.

A jury of nine women and three men returned the verdict Thursday afternoon after deliberating for nine hours. The verdict was reported on The Birmingham News Web site and Birmingham television stations WVTM and WBRC.

White, a Republican from Homewood, was accused of accepting envelopes filled with $100 bills - often $2,000 at a time - from a Birmingham engineer as a reward for help with county business.

White is also a former state representative.
