Pell City to Get Alabama Veterans Home

Montgomery – The state Board of Veterans Affairs has selected Pell City to get the state's fourth veterans home.

The board voted unanimously Friday for a 27-acre site adjoining the Pell City campus of Jefferson State Community College. Helena and Tuscaloosa had also sought the veterans home.

Officials said the state's three veterans homes in Bay Minette, Alexander City and Huntsvile currently house a total of 450 veterans and each have a waiting list.

The state Department of Veterans Affairs plans to build the Pell City home with $26 million in federal funding and $12 million in state funding.
