Montgomery, AL – Governor Bob Riley announced today that the state plans to celebrate achievements in sports this year by putting a focus on legendary heroes, sports museums and athletic events.
The Year of Alabama Sports is the fifth in a series of themed promotions designed to attract tourists to the state.
The two million dollars campaign aims to boost attendance at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and Barber Vintage Motorsports in Birmingham, the Paul Bryant Museum in Tuscaloosa and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at the Talladega Superspeedway.
It also hopes to raise the profile of lesser-known sites, like Rickwood Field, the Jesse Owens Museum and Park in Lawrence County and the U.S. Sports Academy in Daphne.
