McCain Plans Campaign Stop in Alabama

Montgomery – Arizona Sen. John McCain will bring his Republican presidential campaign to Birmingham on Saturday to rally support for Alabama's primary on February 5.

State Attorney General Troy King, who is McCain's state campaign chairman, said the candidate will speak at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Birmingham Sheraton. King said details are still being worked out, but he believes the event will be open to the public.

Recent Alabama polls have shown McCain and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leading among likely Republican voters. McCain's decision to visit Alabama "is further evidence nobody is taking Alabama for granted," King said Tuesday.
