Author William F. Buckley Jr., regarded by some as the father of the modern conservative movement, died Wednesday morning at his Connecticut home.

Buckley founded the journal National Review in 1955, and was known also as a television host and novelist.

William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard and columnist for The New York Times remembers Buckley:

"Bill taught many things about politics, about culture, about ideas," Kristol recalls. "But one of the things he taught is that you shouldn't actually spend 24 hours a day, seven days a week devoting yourself to politics and to political fighting or even to intellectual fighting. And he sailed ... He skied. He had friendships of all kinds all over the world."
