Alabama Tax Return Not Needed To Get Federal Rebate

Montgomery, AL – An Alabama tax official says it's not necessary to file an Alabama income tax return to receive a federal tax rebate.

Richard Henninger, who directs the individual and corporate tax division of the state Revenue Department, said Monday only a federal tax return is required for a rebate check.

Henninger said Alabamians who do not meet the state income tax filing requirements are not required to file a state income tax return to receive one of the federal payments.

The federal rebate checks are supposed to start going out in May to 130 million households nationwide.
