Appeals Court Refuses to Release Scrushy on Appeal Bond

Montgomery, AL – A federal appeals court has refused to release former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy on bond while his conviction in a corruption case is being appealed.

Scrushy's attorney, Art Leach, said he received a copy Thursday night of an order from the 11th Circuit refusing Scrushy's latest request to be released.

The 11th Circuit had earlier refused to release the multimillionaire, saying the appellate judges consider him to be a flight risk.

Leach said the order from the appellate court said Scrushy has failed to prove he is not a flight risk.

The order came on the same day that the court ordered Scrushy's co-defendant, former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, released from a federal prison in Louisiana during the appeal.
