Montgomery, AL – A state representative has asked that the official House record show that he did not vote "yes" last week when the House voted for a proposed constitutional amendment to take the state sales tax off of groceries.
The proposed amendment passed the House on April 15th, getting the exact 63 votes needed to pass a constitutional amendment in the House.
The final vote showed GOP Representative DuWayne Bridges of Valley, voting "yes." Bridges was on a trip to China and Korea last week trying to recruit new industry for his east Alabama district. Several Republican legislators have said they saw a Democrat, Representative Randy Hinshaw of Meridianville, vote Bridges machine.
Hinshaw has not said whether he specifically voted Bridges machine. He declined to comment further.
The proposed amendment has been approved by a Senate committee and awaits action in the upper chamber.
